The history of a Sephardic family

Jaap Cohen provides a biographical sketch of Eli d’Oliveira, in which a number of important themes of Dutch Jewish history come together. Cohen describes a history spanning twelve generations of the Jessurun d’Oliveira family, using it to trace developments in identity formation within the Sephardi community in the Netherlands.
