The Holocaust Fund of the Jews from Macedonia and
The Jewish Community in the Republic of Macedonia,
are inviting you, on March 09 – 10, 2011 to the
Opening Ceremony of the
Holocaust Memorial Centerof the Jews from Macedonia

In the year 2000, the Republic of Macedonia passed the Law on Denationalization, which anticipates special provisions for the Jews, who were forced to leave their property and were deported to the Nazi concentration camps, who have not survived the Holocaust and do not have legal heirs. This Law was used as a basis for the establishment of the Holocaust Fund of the Jews from Macedonia. The Holocaust Fund is run by a Steering Committee appointed by the Government of the Republic of Macedonia consisting of three representatives of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia and three representatives of the Jewish Community in the Republic of Macedonia. The resources collected through the denationalization are allocated for the construction of the Holocaust Memorial Center of the Jews from Macedonia.
This Memorial Center as a lasting memory to the 7,148 Jews from Macedonia will not only tell the story about Shoah but will also bear witness of the long history of the Jews living in Macedonia and in the Balkans, representing a cultural center dedicated to promotion of inter-religious and inter-ethnic understanding and cooperation in the region and beyond. The Memorial Center will preserve the memories and at the same time, it will also send a strong message to future generations and prevent it from happening ever again.
The patron of the opening ceremony is the Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia –H.?. Nikola Gruevski.
