Special Event: «Mixing Musics: The Sacred Songs of Istanbul Jews» will take place on Feb. 10, 2014

The UW Stroum Center for Jewish Studies and its Sephardic Studies Program are pleased to announce a special upcoming event featuring our colleague and friend, Dr. Maureen Jackson.

«Mixing Musics: The Sacred Songs of Istanbul Jews» will take place on Feb. 10, 2014 at 7:00 at the Ethnic Cultural Theater. This free event features Dr. Maureen Jackson, a UW alum, who will be discussing her new book, Mixing Musics: Turkish Jewry and the Urban Landscape of a Sacred Song (Stanford University Press). «Mixing Musics» just received the prestigious National Jewish Book Award in Sephardic Culture. Musical accompaniment will be provided by Dr. Munir Beken, an ud master and member of the ethnomusicology faculty at UCLA.
