You are kindly invited to the international workshop “Ladino and Yiddish Rabbinic Writings”, organized by the Center for the Study of Jewish Languages and Literatures and the Yiddish Studies Program at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
This conference will bring together specialists in diverse academic disciplines to explore Ladino and Yiddish rabbinic writings as expressions of rabbinic thought in the vernacular languages traditionally used by Sephardim and Ashkenazim. The period covered will be the sixteenth through twentieth centuries; the disciplines represented will include literature, linguistics, religion, culture studies, and history.
The workshop will take place on the Mount Scopus campus of the Hebrew University on Wednesday and Thursday (9-10 March 2016) and at the National Library of Israel at Givat Ram on Thursday afternoon (10 March 2016), where we will hold the closing session and inaugurate an exhibit of Ladino and Yiddish rabbinic books.
For more details please see the attached poster.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the workshop.
Cordially,
The Members of the Academic Committee: Prof. David Bunis, Prof. Avraham Novershtern, Prof. Emerita Chava Turniansky, Dr. Katja Šmid
