In the midst of sad news from around the world and a rise of anti-Semitism, we Greek Jews have cause for celebration. In the city of Ioannina, our sister city, where only some 30 Jews live and the Christian population is about 60,000, a Jewish mayor was elected, our own Moisis Eliasaf, President of the Jewish community of Ioannina and Head of Internal Medicine at the University of Ioannina. The people of Ioannina voted for the best man, who happened to be Jewish! Moisis is the first Jew ever elected as Mayor in Greece. See additional articles in this issue about this monumental victory.
