Dr. Eliezer Papo is the vice director of Moshe David Gaon Center for Ladino Culture at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. He has taught folklore, folk literature, Judeo-Spanish culture, and Hebrew literature at BGU since 2002. Born and raised in Sarajevo, Dr. Papo has a B.A. in law from the University of Sarajevo, a degree in Rabbinics from Midrash Sephardi in Jerusalem, an M.A. in Jewish languages in literatures from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and a Ph.D. in Hebrew literature from BGU. His Ph.D. thesis was titled “And Thou Shall Jest with Your Son: Judeo-Spanish Parodies on the Passover Haggadah.” A novelist and short story writer, Dr. Papo has also published many articles on Sephardic culture and literature. He is featured in the 2004 documentary “El Ultimo Sefardi,” focusing on the current state of Ladino culture worldwide.
