The Isaac Campanton Center welcomes proposals for the International Congress Common Sephardic Heritage between Zamora and La Raya that will take place in Vimioso, Carçao (Portugal), Fermoselle, and Zamora (Spain) on July 1-4, 2014.
Organization Committee looks forward to interdisciplinary proposals from academics, graduate students, and other cultural agents studying, preserving and communicating the Sephardic heritage in Zamora and La Raya (border with Portugal).
Suggested topic may include:
- Zamora in the route to Portugal during the expulsion of 1492
- Crypto Jewish symbols and signs along La Raya
- Genealogical connections between Tras Os Montes and Zamora
- Inquisition trials involving both sides of La Raya
- Women roles on preserving Sephardic heritage in La Raya region
- Cultural heritages between La Raya and Zamora: food, folk stories, and music
- Sephardic intellectual figures like Abraham Saba, Josef Hayyun, and Isaac Cardoso, among others.
- Synagogues and center for Jewish learning in Castile and Portugal
- Connections between Sephardic Literature and National Literatures (Spain and Portugal)
- Experiences on recuperation and recognition of Sephardic heritage in Spain and Portugal
- Impact of the Sephardic Studies on National histories in Spain and Portugal
- Sephardic Transatlantic Relations
- Resources for studies of Sephardic Culture and History (Bibliographies, Research Centers, webpages, and other venues)
Proposals should be written on the three languages of the congress – Spanish, Portuguese and English- and they should include: name, last names, institutional affiliation, format (individual, panel or other), technological needs (computer, projector, screen), email and phone number.
Authors of accepted papers may be invited to publish their work on the Congress Memoirs.
Registration fees: general public, 5 euros, presenters, 15 euros.
Deadline for submissions is May 1, 2014. A final decision will be emailed to the presenters by May 15, 2014.
