Call for Papers

You are cordially invited to participate in an International Conference entitled:

Jews across the Balkans – History, Society and Culture

Marking 70 years since the destruction of the Jews of Macedonia and the Balkans (1943-2013)

To take place on Sunday-Wednesday, 25-28 Tishri, 5774 (29/9-2/10/2013)
The Conference will be held at the Holocaust Memorial Centre, Skopje, Macedonia.

The Conference will address the following subjects:

• Judeo-Spanish (Ladino): Language and Culture
• The Balkan Jewry during and following the Shoah
• Hebrew Literature in the Balkan Region
• Legal and Political Status of the Jews in the Balkans
• Sabbateans and Sabbateanism
• Relations between Jews and the Surrounding Society
• The Jewish Community and its Institutions
• Art and Culture
• New Research Findings
• Social Aspects

Researchers specializing in one of the areas related to Balkan Jewry are invited to submit a proposal for a paper, accompanied by a one-page abstract. Proposals on topics not listed above are welcomed and will also be considered by the Academic Committee.
Final date for proposal submission is Tuesday, 20 Iyar, 5773 (April 30, 2013).
