First Seminar for Argentine Teachers in the Memorial de la Shoah-Paris: "Teaching about the Holocaust and Genocides of XX Century"

The First Seminar for Argentine Teachers “ Teaching about the Holocaust and Genocides of XX Century» was held between June 13 to 16, 2011 in the Memorial de la Shoah in Paris, organized jointly by the Memorial and the Holocaust Museum in Buenos Aires.

23 Argentine teachers from all over the country participated.

We can highlight among the prominent speakers: Georges Bensoussan (The Holocaust between History and Memory and Nazi Ideology and Anti-Semitism), Christian Ingrao (Evolution of genocidal practices: Steps of the Final Solution), Yann Jurovics (What is Genocide?), Yves Ternon (Armenian Genocide and Genocide and Denial), Philippe Boukara (Jewish life before the Holocaust), Helene Dumas (Tutsi Genocide in Rwanda), Pascal Zachary (Transmission Challenges in the Holocaust) and Tal Bruttmann ( France in times of War).

Alban Perrin led the visit to Drancy Transit Camp.

Jacques-Oliver David coordinated the visit to the Memorial de la Shoah and its Museum, and delivered a workshop on Roma and Sinti.

The group visited the exhibit on «The Eichmann Trial» where is exposed a facsimile of Ricardo Klement safe-conduct (which belongs to the collection of the Buenos Aires Holocaust Museum).

The group had the opportunity to meet with Haïm Vidal-Sephiha, an Auschwitz Survivor, who was accompanied by his wife and his assistant Marilou Tremil, by Michel Azaria, Vice President of the Judeo-Espagnol Foundation to Auschwitz.

These Argentine teachers were received prior to their departure by the French Ambassador in Argentina, M. Jean-Pierre Asvazadourian, and the Second Secretary Guillaume Mounier and accompanied by the President of the Museum, Mario Feferbaum and Julia Juhasz. In Paris, they hold meetings with Alejandra Birgin, Director of the Casa de la Cultura Argentina, and the Argentine Ambassador in Paris, Aldo Ferrer.

Karel Fracapane, Head of International Relations of the Memorial de la Shoah, addressed his speech to the attendees at the opening and closing of the seminar, accompanied by Graciela Jinich, Executive Director of the Buenos Aires Holocaust Museum, who presented a plaque as gift of appreciation to the Memorial.

Mr. Fracapane was accompanied by Tal Bruttmann (Seminar Coordinator), by Patricia Debico (Administrative Training Coordinator), Laura Lekeux (Assistant) and the translators.

The Buenos Aires Holocaust Museum feels very grateful to the Memorial de la Shoah in Paris and to all those who made this Seminar possible, for the quality and depth of all lecturers and their conferences, the excellent translations and the materials given to each participant as well as the generosity with which they were provided.
