Las aktividades del Sentro Salti / The Salti Center for Ladino Studies
Este anyo markamos el diezen aniversaryo de la fundasion del Sentro Naime i Yeoshua Salti para los Estudios del Ladino en la Universidad Bar Ilan de Israel. El sentro tiene el nombre de los ke lo fundaron, ke son un marido i mujer orijinarios de Turkiya.
El Sentro Naime i Yehoshúa Salti para los estudios del Ladino es un organismo akademiko dedikado a la difuzion, ensenyansa i investigasyones sientifikas en el kampo de la lengua judeo-espanyola i la kultura sefaradí.
Su direktor, desde su fundasyon en el anyo 2003, es el Prof. Shmuel Refael ke kumple kon devuamiento i kapasidad las funksiones de ensenyansa, orientasion i formasyon de los estudiantes. Las Sras. Ester Metzger i Liora Hagüel se enkargan de la administrasyon i la direksion lojístika.
Las aktividades del Sentro inkluyen: la promosyon i la partisipasyon de sus estudiantes en kursos de formasion akademika, en programas destinados a la komunidad de los ladino avlantes, komo los enkuentros bi-mensuales de la seria «La Biblia en ladino.» El Sentro Salti organiza seminarios nasyonales, komo los bien konosidos i apresyados «Maraton de ladino» ansi ke kongresos internasionales komo el “17th Conference on Judeo-Spanish Studies” – La 17.a konferensia de los estudios Judeo-Espanioles – ke tuvo logar el verano pasado en el kampus de la Universidad Bar Ilan. El sentro enkoraja la partisipasyión de estudiantes i investigadores en seminares i aktividades de interkambio akademiko i partisipa en la publikasyon de artikolos akademikos en Israel i el mundo. El Sentro Salti es una institusyon ke avre sus puertas a estudiantes i investigadores de todo el mundo, metiendo a sus dispozisyon sus instalasyones i su eksperiensa para adelantar sus formasion sientifika . Asta oy, el sentro akordo a sus estudiantes dodje Maestrías (M.A.s) i ocho grados de Doctorat (PhDs), i este anyo de estudios tiene siete doktorantes i ocho estudiantes para grados avansados de estudio.
Después de diez anyos de lavoro duro i seriozo, el Sentro Salti es rekonosido mundialmente por su ekipa ensenyante i sus estudiantes de valor, por su rika biblioteka i por la kualidad de sus investigasyones ke son publikadas en las mijores revistas akademikas del mundo i en la revista Ladinar, ke es la produksion editoriala del sentro. En pokos meses sera publikado el volumen numero siete de Ladinar ke resume las ponensias i lavoros akademikos presentados en Londra en el “16th British Conference on Judeo-Spanish Studies”, ke fue un kongreso organizado i patronado por la Universidad Ingleza Queen Mary University en kolaborasyon kon el Sentro Naime i Yehoshua Salti.
La ekipa akademika i ensenyante tiene un alto profil profesional en las sigyentes areas akadémikas de investigasion:
la Dra. Nina Pinto: folklor, humor i haketía; la Dra. Nivi Gomel: ensenyansa de la lengua, la retorika i la traduksyion de tekstos; la Dra. Susy Gruss: literatura moderna; el Dr. Dov Cohen: bibliografía, literatura patrimoniala i relijyoza. La Sra. Sandra Katz da klasas de lingua Espanyola a los elevos de estudios avansados.
Aktualmente el Sentro Salti tiene en su programa numerosos proyektos de investigasion: ultimamente se kompleto el rejistro dijtal de la biblioteka, un lavoro realizado por los bibliógrafos Dr. Dov Cohen i Sr. Nisim Karidi. La biblioteka de konsulta a la dispozisyon de los interesados kontiene unos dos mil i kinyentos titolos, entre los kualos mas de sheshentos son livros antiguos (rare books), koleksiones de periodikos en Judeo-Espanyol, revistas, monografías, dissertasiones i tezas doktorales.
El Sentro Salti apoyo i realizo la publikasyon de los titolos sigyentes, todos siendo resultados de investigasyon de la kultura sefaradí:
Ora (Rodrigue) Schwarzwald, Sidur para mujeres en Ladino; Elena Romero – Estudios sefardíes dedicados a la memoria de Iacob M. Hassan, Michal Held, Ven te kontare; Shmuel Refael, Un grito en el silencio.
El sentro tiene un sitio web, www.ladino-biu.com ke es aktualizado regularmente i informa sovre las aktividades del sentro i da invitasyones para los evenimientos proksimos, informasyones para los estudiantes, ansi ke un formulario de inskripsion a la lista de difusión por korreo elektroniko. Este sitio esta vijitado por kuaje 225 personas al dia i 935 vijitadores personales al mez.
El Sentro Salti para Estudios del Ladino es altamente konsiderado en el kampo akademiko mundial i en Israel por su rolo importante en la prezervasyon i el entiendimiento de la kultura sefaradí, por sus medios de investigasyon i ensenyansa del Ladino ( Judeo-Espanyol) komo una erensia para las jenerationes venideras. Por su alta kualidad i grande importansa, esta institusyon merese de ser apresiada, felisitada i sostenida para ke pueda kontinuar su misyon.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Naime and Yeoshua Salti Center for Ladino Studies at Bar Ilan University in Israel. Founded by the Turkish-born couple whose name it bears, the Center has made its mark in the world for its dedication to the diffusion, teaching, and advancement of scientific research in the field of the Judeo-Spanish language and Sephardic culture. Since its foundation in 2003, the Center has been headed by Professor Shmuel Refael, who ably directs the processes of instruction, orientation, and training of the students. Ester Metzger and Liora Hagüel are in charge of the administration and logistical direction of the Center.<
The Salti Center operates in several ways: it promotes the participation of students in academic courses and in extracurricular activities aimed at Ladino speakers in the community, such as the bimonthly meetings of the series La Biblia en ladino (The Bible in Ladino); it sponsors national seminars such as the popular Maraton de Ladino (Ladino Marathon) as well as international conferences such as the 17th Conference on Judeo-Spanish Studies held last summer in the campus of Bar Ilan University. The Center fosters the participation of students and researchers in seminars and academic exchange activities, and contributes to academic publications in Israel and abroad. It is an institution that opens its doors to students and researchers from around the world, offering to them its expertise and its facilities. The Center has already granted twelve Masters (MA) degrees and eight doctorates (PhDs), and currently has seven doctoral students and eight more pursuing advanced degrees.
Thanks to its ten years of hard work, the Salti Center is recognized worldwide for its able faculty and dedicated students, for its rich library and the high quality of its research published in the best journals and in the Center’s own publication, the magazine Ladinar. In a few months volume number seven of Ladinar will come to light, summarizing presentations made in London in the 16th British Conference on Judeo-Spanish Studies, a conference organized and sponsored by Queen Mary University in conjunction with the Naime and Yeoshua Salti Center.
The highly professional faculty is involved in the following academic areas of research:
Dr. Nina Pinto – folklore, humor, and Haquetía; Dr. Nivi Gomel – teaching the language, rhetoric, and translation of texts; Dr. Susy Gruss – modern literature; Dr. Dov Cohen – traditional and religious literature. Ms. Sandra Katz teaches Spanish to students in advanced studies.
The Salti Center currently houses numerous research projects, among which is that of Dr. Dov Cohen and Mr. Nisim Caridi who have recently completed digitizing the records of the library’s holdings. The reference library has about 2500 titles, among which are six hundred old books (rare books), Judeo-Spanish newspaper collections, journals, monographs, dissertations and theses.<
The Center has supported the publication of the following titles, all dealing with the investigation of Sephardic culture:
Ora (Rodrigue) Schawarzwald, Sidur para mujeres en Ladino (Prayer book for Women in Ladino); Elena Romero, Estudios sefardíes dedicados a la memoria de Iacob M. Hassán (Sephardic Studies dedicated to the Memory of Iacob M. Hassan); Michal Held, Ven te kontare (Come, Let Me Tell You); Shmuel Refael, Un grito en el silencio (A Scream in the Silence.)
The Center has a regulary updated website, www.ladino-biu.com, which offers news about the Center’s activities, invitations to events, information for students, and a registration form for an online mailing list. The site receives an average of 225 visits day and 935 individual visitors each month.<
The Salti Center for Ladino Studies is highly regarded in academic circles in Israel and the world for its important function in the preservation and understanding of Sephardic Culture through research and the teaching of Ladino (or Judeo Spanish) as a heritage for future generations. As such, it is an institution that deserves our congratulations and support so that it may continue in its important mission.
