The inaugural session of the Words and Music series at KAM Isaiah Israel, this event is part lecture, part concert. Dr. Edwin Seroussi, the Emanuel Alexandre Professor of Musicology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Winter 2016 Joyce Z. Greenberg Visiting Professor of Jewish Studies at the University of Chicago will teach about the incredible history of Ladino folksongs, and the work of composer/arranger Alberto Hemsi who elevated these simple melodies to the level of great art music. Kuang-Hao Huang, pianist, will accompany Cantor David Berger in performance of some of Hemsi’s fantastic arrangements and original compositions.
