Jak Esim is one of the worlds most important researchers and collectors of songs from this disappearing culture and language.
The Ladino sound collection which was collected and recorded by Jak Esim in the Jewish Sephardic community of Istanbul during the years of 1960 – 2005 is currently added to the National Sound Archives of The National Library of Israel in Jerusalem.
The group consisting prominent musicians of Turkey make a contemporary, polyponic interpretation true to its authenticity.
They aim to form different vibrations with their ethnic structure and introduce the Sephardic music to the international audiences.
Janet was born in Ankara in 1965 and Jak was born in Istanbul in 1958. Following their albums, Judeo Espanyol Ezgiler (1989) with Erkan Ogur and Antik Bir H?z?n (1992) with Erkan Ogur and Okay Temiz, Sefardim 1 they made in 1992 which was released in Germany has won German Critics Award.
Nezih Yesilnil, Murat Ozbey, B?lent Ortacgil and Erkan Ogur have later joined Janet and Jak as regular members. The same year this group gave more than 50 concerts in Europe and participated in many international festivals.
Birkac Sonsuzluk Ani which was released in 1994 consisted of concert recordings from their Munich and Ankara concerts.
Their songs were included in 3 different compilation CDs made in Europe between 1994 – 2000 and A Jewish Odyssey released by the Putumayo World Music in 2001.
