Charlotta Chorale of Tel Aviv seek singers

Charlotta Chorale of Tel Aviv is a small classical ensemble of singers who plan to visit Palermo in September, this year, specifically to celebrate the re-establishment of the synagogue in Palermo after 500 years. They shal sing Israeli songs and Ladino songs.

The Carlotta Chorale seek singers who have some experience of note reading in a choir for this presentation.

Charlotta Chorale of Tel Aviv was formed by Eli Gefen in 1990. The Chorale would like to be seen as a witness to the hopes and values of those who long for peace and friendship.  Also known as Alei Gefen Chorus of Tel-Aviv, the ensemble has gained a significant reputation for its wide-ranging repertoire of secular and sacred works performed by them in Israel’s major venues.  Abroad they have sung in London’s Royal Albert Hall, in the presence of HRH The Princess Royal (Britten: War Requiem); Westminster Abbey (A Ceremony of Hebrew Sacred Songs); Covent Garden Festival (Rossini: Moses out of Egypt;  Royal Festival Hall (Tippett: A Child of Our Time), as well as in Europe’s leading choral festivals. They have appeared before audiences in Malta, Madrid, Zaragoza, Borja, Prague, Rome and Lisbon and alongside «Custody of the Holy Land» at the Jerusalem International YMCA («Together in Song», 2006).  They have sung concerts in the legendary Palace of the Alcazar of Seville, also in San Juan De Dios of Granada (2007), and appeared in a special performance for His Eminence, the Chief Cardinal of Vienna, Archbishop Christoph Schoenborn, with his delegation of Austrian Bishops (Jerusalem (2007).  They were heard by the US Ambassador to Israel (2007); and in Jerusalem together with the Hamburg Physicians Orchestra and the Custody of the Holy Land Choir» in «The Sound of Peace» (May 2008).  The Cardinal of Vienna invited the ensemble to Vienna in November 2008 where they dedicated concerts to «70 Years After Kristallnacht». This was followed by «A Ceremony of Sacred Songs» in Bratislava at Comenius University where the Rector awarded Conductor Eli Gefen the medal «Proclamation of a United Europe – Celebration of the Bells». Special performances were given in Hungary, a dedication concert for Daniel Pearl by invitation of the US Ambassador to Hungary, as well as for the Jewish Communities in all three cities. “Charlotta Chorale” has sung in distinguished venues throughout 2012/16;  Hebrew University of Jerusalem;  Tel-Aviv University, Israel Journalists Association – Daniel Pearl commemoration; 150th anniversary of Jerusalem’s Austrian Hospice in the presence of Karl von Habsburg, Prince Imperial and Archduke of Austria and members of his family;  Ra’anana Kehilot Amitai; Darchei Noam Ramat HaSharon; Netanya Bet Israel; Disabled Veterans Association, Afeka; Jerusalem Hebrew University, Commemoration of Armenian Genocide;  Centennial Armenian Genocide St. Gregory’s Church, Jerusalem; Lions Club;  a choral tribute to the 50th Anniversary of Nostra Aetate,  St Peter’s Church, Old Jaffa ;Diaspora Museum Tel Aviv University; Blumental Music Centre Tel Aviv; official visit to Armenia :Yerevan & Ijevan, April 2017. 

Israeli choral conductor Eli Gefen was born in Bratislava.  He studied violin with the concertmaster of the Vienna State Opera and choral conducting under Gary Bertini and Simon Halsey.  Gefen was a baritone soloist in Israel’s leading choirs and a bassoonist with the Israel Chamber Orchestra.  As principal conductor and music director of the Kibbutzim Youth Orchestra and Choirs, he won first prize in several competitions.
