THE SIXTEENTH WORLD CONGRESS OF JEWISH STUDIES – Hebrew University of Jerusalem

July 28 – August 1, 2013.

Following the very successful meeting of 2009, the Jewish Music Research Centre is coordinating the music sections and events at the forthcoming 16th World Congress of Jewish Studies to be held at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem on July 28 – August 1, 2013.

We are glad to conduct this event once again in cooperation with the American Society for Jewish Music. Attached please find the synopsis of the program and the abstracts for all the sessions and panels. Scholars from three continent will address  all aspects of and approaches to music in Jewish cultures and societies (including music in Israel), in the past, present and future as well as general issues related to world music history and ethnography that are related to Jewish subjects, images or ideas.

In addition a rich series of noon concerts and workshops were prepared for the enjoyment of the participants. By public acclaim the Ensemble Tefillalt is returning to the WCJS after its success of 2009. New books and CDs on Jewish music will be on display during the congress.
