SEPHARDIC DAY @ THE J – 21 OCT 2018, Seattle, USA

A day for everyone to celebrate Sephardic culture. Play Ladingo and Toss-a-Biscocho, shop for jewelry and crafts, buy kosher Sephardic lunch from Leah’s Catering, and get a preview concert from trailblazing Sephardic band Jaffa Road.

Festivities include:

    • Ladingo: bingo with the Judeo-Spanish language Ladino
    • Mah jongg, backgammon, and spin-the-wheel

  • Lunch: buy kosher Sephardic lunch catered by Leah’s Catering
  • Preview concert: dance with the trailblazing Sephardic band Jaffa Road, a highly acclaimed band that blends Sephardic Jewish, jazz, Indian, and Arabic music with electronica for a sound that’s ancient and modern, acoustic and electronic, secular and sacred.
  • Evening concert with Jaffa Road: come back in the evening for a full concert with Jaffa Road.

Jaffa Road is a highly acclaimed Toronto-based world music group made up of some of Canada’s most exciting and innovative interpreters of intercultural music. The two-time Juno-nominated, genre-bending, global roots band has established themselves as unique creators and interpreters of Jewish music in Ladino, Portuguese, Hebrew, Arabic, Russian, and English. The group has created a unique sonic landscape drawing on Sephardic Jewish, Arabic, Indian, modern jazz, rock, and dub grooves that takes listeners on a journey that is at once ancient and modern, acoustic and electronic, sacred and secular. Together, the quintet and lead vocalist Aviva Chernick reach higher heights, offering audiences a cornucopia of colorful poetry, emotions, textures, and danceable grooves.
