On de front cover of this calendar is a sample of the beautiful ceramics made on the island of Rhodes. The above plate displays the deer, which is symbol of Rhodes.

Rhodes is well known for its artistic creations over de centuries. From the bronze » Colossus of Rhodes» to fine embroideries.
When the Italians occupied Rhodes they implemented government projects to improve the living standars. This was done by developing the island’s economy, infrastructure as well as making it a tourist destination. They created numerous new buildings as well as establishing local industries. In 1929 the Italian governmente established a cerammisc industry, called I.C.A.R.O (Industrie Ceramiche Artistiche Rodio – Orientali). Althoug it has now closed, other ceramic businesses continue to manifacture these artistic product.
