Caracas, Dec 13 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan experts in the state of Falcon have reported the discovery of a Jewish Mikvah, a space used by devotees of that religion for ritual purification baths.
According to the Ministry of Culture, research is being conducted by specialists with the School of Anthropology at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), coordinated by the Office of Planning and Design for Heritage Areas at Coro and La Vela (OPEDAD).
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Coro and La Vela Puerto Real, a UNESCO Building Cultural Heritage Site, anthropologist Carlos Alberto Martin highlighted the discovery.
Martin said the discovery took place at the home of ancient family Senior in Coro. The building housed the Museo Alberto Henríquez, whose remodeling by the state government resulted in the discovery of a structure dating from about 1774.
According to reports, the structure is the only one of its kind excavated in Venezuela and possibly in America.
«Only three have been found in Europe and now this one in Falcon state, so we will continue investigating,» Martin said.
«We also discovered human bones, which means that this house was built over a pre-Hispanic village and not on a colonial town, as once thought,» he said.
