Hasdai Ibn Shaprut (915-975) was a famous jewish scholar and physician, who saved the life of Khalif Abd a-Rahman III in Alandalus, thus becoming his trusted companion and later promoted to Wazir (minister).
During the reign of a-Rahman the III, Alandalus (Islamic Spain) has experienced the peak of its cultural and scientific development in a 300 year age called among the jews as the Golden Age of Sefarad (Golden Age of Spain).
