One week until our ALL Authors program featuring Dr. Joe Halio in conversation with Dr. Bryan Kirschen! We thought we’d share some of his biography with you.
Joe Halio was raised in Brooklyn in a Sephardic family, with grandparents from Salonica and Turkey. He was exposed to Sephardic and Ladino culture from an early age. His grandfather Albert Torres, of Sephardic Publishing Company, was the publisher of the Ladino Newspaper, La Vara (pictured below). Joe’s father, Hank Halio, was the author of «Ladino
Reveries: Tales of the Sephardic Experience in America.» They taught him to speak and read and write Ladino and Solitreo. He also learned Ladino refranes from his mother and Grandma Susie.
Joe’s newest book is «Tokar Manos, The Sephardic Logo – Symbol of Sephardic Unity and Cooperation.» With his writing and leadership in the Sephardic community, he is carrying on a multi-generational legacy of Ladino publications in the United States.
Join us on Thursday, Nov.6 at 7pm ET / 4pm PT for this special interview, in English with Ladino touchpoints.
