Support the Foundation Mota de Judíos

Dear friend / To whoever it may concern,

I am Loreno Rodríguez Pérez and I am getting in touch with you as the Mayor of Castrillo Mota de Judíos, a place situated in the province of Burgos, where I am also the president of the Association Mota de Judíos and as President of the Association Sefardí Itinerary of Castilla Leon.

Since the year 2015, the town has been immersed in recovering its Sefardí culture, impregnated for centuries in its countryside: houses, streets, the setting of La mota and the Way of St. James as a way of communicating all the neighbouring towns and different capitals of the province of Castilla and Leon.

During these years we have started excavations where we have discovered the way of life of our ancestors, as well as the necropolis of the X century.

By the same token, we have equipped with an organ the San Esteban church, primary element in the life of our fellow civilian Antonio de Cabezón, who was a musician in Philip the second’s court.

Moreover, we are about to complete the restoration of the building which will house the Centre for Sefardí Cultural Studies in Castilla and León, which is on the Way of St James route, as well as the headquarters of the Network of Jewish quarters of Castilla and Leon.

All these inversions are a result of the effort the Town Hall is undertaking with the town hall’s, the council of Castilla and León’s and the Deputation of the Burgos Province’s; La Kaza Muestra Association own funds; and with the unconditional support of the Sefardi Centre in Israel. Up to now we have inverted 550.000 euros of a total budget of 750.000 euros.

In this way we only have 200.000 left to finish this project and we find ourselves in the need to look for further financiation to highlight theimportance of this patrimony, the legacy from the Sefardí’s past in our town, to be able to finish it.

For all of this, and with the illusion of all our citizens for having started this project, in recognition of the Sefardí and Jewish nation, we ask for your collaboration to be able to finish this project as our local town hall lacks its own economical funds to achieve this, considering that this would be a good opportunity for the Sefardí’s to participate in this cultural activity of
divulgation and this would also suppose a tourist landmark on the Way of St James.

For all of this I urge you, if you think highly of this opportunity, to make an economic contribution (donation) which can be a personal donation, it doesn’t matter how small, your community or your business, so that we can finish this building for the Sefardí Memory, as well as the archaeological excavations, indicated before, in La Mota, to convert them in the most important cultural landmark for Castilla and León, door to the Sefardí and Jewish culture. I am sure that we are going to count on your unconditional support.

Our intention is to name it after that person or institution, who or which is the principal patron of this project; moreover, some of the spaces in this centre will also be named after other patrons who or which have participated in the project. On one of the main facades of this cultural space will figure the names of the rest of the donors too.

The quantity of the donation will go to the Foundation Mota de Judíos whose bank account details are as follows:

All of this work, which started in 2015, has been recognised by the King of Spain, his majesty Philip the VI; the previous Minister of Foreign Affairs Alfonso Dastis; the Israeli Embassy in Spain; the present government of Spain; the Israeli town of Kfar-Vradim, which is twinned with Castrillo Mota de Judíos; as well as the Jewish communities here in Madrid and
Spain.
