A celebration of Sephardic music, from 15th century Ladino songs to Spanish indie rock infused with the entrancing rhythms of the ancient Sephardic tradition! Yasmin Levy, considered one of the finest singers in the Middle East, performs haunting and deeply spiritual renditions of songs from her Judeo-Spanish heritage, as well as newly penned songs rooted in the tradition. She is a champion of Ladino, the ancient language of the Sephardic Jews that is now facing extinction. The concert opens with groundbreaking music by Brooklyn’s DeLeon (a group named after the 12th century Kabbalistic philosopher Moses Deleon), which re-imagines ancient melodies as contemporary pieces.
