Or Sasson nació en Jerusalén el 18 de agosto de 1990. De familia sefardí, es un deportista israelí que compite en la disciplina yudo.
Participó en los Juegos Olímpicos de Río de Janeiro 2016, obteniendo una medalla de bronce en la categoría de +100 kg.
En los Juegos Europeos de Bakú 2015 consiguió una medalla de plata en la categoría de +100 kg.
Ganó dos medallas de plata en el Campeonato Europeo de Yudo, en los años 2015 y 2016.

Un judoca egipcio le negó el saludo a su rival israelí
Juegos Olímpicos: Islam El Shehaby perdió en primera ronda con Or Sasson. En su país pedían que no se presentara.
La imagen no es la de cordialidad que se muestra entre deportistas en los Juegos Olímpicos. La rivalidad histórica se coló en el deporte y el judoca egipcio Islam El Shehaby se comportó de la peor manera en el duelo por los dieciseisavos de final de la categoría más de 100 kilos: se negó a saludar al israelí Or Sasson tras perder el combate. Su actitud, en una seria violación a la ética del judo, fue abucheada por los espectadores que estaban en el Arena Carioca 2.
Con dos Waza-Ari y un Shido a un minuto y 35 segundos del final del combate, Sasson se impuso a El Shehaby, quien permaneció en el piso por un momento antes de levantarse para tomar su lugar frente a Sasson en el tatami, ante al referí. Cuando el israelí le extendió el brazo, el egipcio retrocedió y negó con la cabeza. El árbitro lo obligó a hacer la reverencia pero El Shehaby se limitó a bajar un poco la cabeza. En el arte marcial japonés es señal de respeto hacer una reverencia o saludarse con la mano.
Aunque El Shehaby prefirió no hablar de su actitud en el tatami, la Federación Internacional de Judo destacó que el enfrentamiento se realizó. “Esto de antemano es una enorme mejora de que los países árabes acepten enfrentar a Israel”, dijo el vocero del organismo, Nicolas Messner, en declaraciones que reproduce la agencia AFP.

PM Bibi Netanyahu congratulated Israeli judo Olympic medal winner, Or Sasson on Saturday evening for winning an Olympic bronze medal in Rio on Friday. Sasson was being interviewed by Channel 2 Saturday night, when the announcer mentioned a surprise caller wanted to speak to him but was waiting until after Shabbat to do so. The Prime minister congratulated him and for a moment the Olympic star was speechless. Netanya told Sasson that “every boy and girl saw not just a great athlete but also a man of values,” in reference to Sasson’s being a professional after his Egyptian opponent refused to shake his hand. “You showed the true face of Israel, the beautiful, proud face of a strong country that seeks peace… alongside the development of ties with regional countries, there remains a lot of work to be done in the face of the awful propaganda [in the Arab world] that has been used against us for decades. This work will happen, God willing.”

“He won, he stretched out his hand,” Netanyahu said of the medal winner. He showed “the beautiful, strong face of Israel.”
“It is a great privilege to represent the beautiful face of Israel,” Sasson told Netanyahu.
After his win over the Egyptian opponent, Sasson went on to beat Cuba’s Alex Maxell Garcia Mendoza to win the bronze medal in Judo. Making it Israel’s second bronze medal of the games, a medal was also won by female judoka Yarden Gerbi earlier in the week.
