RHODES & KOS WEEKEND – JUL. 19-21
Join us for a special weekend dedicated to the memory of the Jews of Rhodes & Kos who were deported from by the Nazi oppressors on July 20, 1944, most never to return. Special guest, Rabbi Marc Angel will be joining us for the observances and will be offering three lectures at Ezra Bessaroth.
The first lecture will be on «Re-inventing Sephardic Seattle: Nostalgia and the Future of our Community» on Thursday, July 19th at 7:30 pm. Rabbi Angel will be Introduced by Dr. Devin Naar, Professor of Jewish Studies and coordinator of the Sephardic Studies Initiative at the UW. A Q & A session will follow.
Rabbi Angel will again speak on the Shabbat of July 21st and will be delivering the Sermon on the topic «Remembering the Jewish Martyrs of Rhodes: Lessons for our Times». A kiddush luncheon and new tile dedication will follow Shabbat services in memory of the Martyrs of Rhodes and Kos and in honor of the donors of the new tiles in the Franco Family courtyard.
Rabbi Angel will speak one last time on Shabbat afternoon of July 21st at 7pm on «Maimonides: Essential teachings in Jewish Faith and Ethics». Rabbi Angel and Dr. Naar’s appearances, the kidddush and all of the observances of the weekend have been generously sponsored by Harley and Lela Franco.
I wish I could be there to hear Rabbi Angel and Devin Naar speak on these important topics.
Regards to all in the wonderful community of Seattle.
