In Greece and in Greek Diaspora communities around the world, October 28th, Oxi Day, is celebrated as the date Greece stood up to Fascist aggression. It was celebrated around the world as the first open confrontation with Fascism. As Winston Churchill said, “From now on we won’t claim that the Greeks fight like heroes, but that heroes fight like Greeks.” Our Museum Director, Marcia Haddad-Ikonomopoulos, will be taking part in an in-person presentation sponsored by The Eastern Mediterranean Business Culture Alliance (EMBCA) on October 28th. She will be covering the role of Greek Jews who fought on the Albanian Front, highlighting those from Ioannina who fell in battle. See full details in this newsletter.
