During the fall of 2016, a flotilla of Israeli yachts will set out on a unique and exciting voyage. The convoy of boats would cross the Mediterranean sea to Gibraltar and then in November would cross, for the first time, the Atlantic Ocean to reach the Caribbean. The flotilla would then travel between the magical islands to follow the rich Jewish history of the region.
This special voyage replicates in part the very same route the Marranos of Spain and Portugal had made during their expulsion in 1492. It reveals the cultural, economical and religious wealth of the Jewish settlement of the Caribbean Islands.
The series «A Caribbean Voyage» documents the sail from start to finish, following the sailors in preparation, in their hardship while facing the forces of nature. For some of the flotilla’s participants this is also a genealogical travel back to the roots of their ancestors and they will be experiencing themselves the Jewish history of the Islands.
In addition to the video documentation we plan on carrying out an Internet live coverage of the voyage to allow viewers to participate and keep them updated on-line. It would also serve as a teaser and promo for screening the full series later on.
The series is planned as 6 part X 40 min.
