El nombre del grupo deriva de la palabra hebrea maim – que significa agua- y de la palabra árabe almaz -que significa diamante-. En Medio Oriente el agua es un tesoro fundamental tan preciosa como los diamantes.

Este grupo se inspira en sus creaciones musicales en los tiempos donde se disfrutaba de una agradable y enriquecedora convivencia entre judíos, musulmanes y cristianos. Esto dio lugar a un intercambio único de las culturas, de los cuales nació un valioso patrimonio musical.

Hoy en día, con arreglos musicales nuevos y propios, MAJIMAZ quiere despertar la interconexión de la música judía y musulmana. Canciones sefardies son interpretadas con instrumental árabe y judía, así como del antiguo Israel y canciones en yiddish . Los sonidos traen un mensaje de paz, un anhelo de que regresen aquellos tiempos de armonía.

The name of the ensemble derives from the Hebrew word majim – meaning water and from the Arabian word almaz – meaning diamond. In the Near East water is life giving. Water combines, connects, and causes dryness to bloom. Water is therefore as precious as diamonds.

In many parts of the world Jews, Arabs and Christians lived peacefully together. This resulted in a unique and flowing exchange of cultures, out of which a precious musical heritage was born.

Today, using new and own music arrangements, MAJIMAZ wants to awaken the interconnection of Jewish and Arabian music. With Sefardian vocal music, Arabian and Jewish instrumental music as well as Ancient Israeli and Yiddish songs a new sound of peace should uprise. A peace, the more remote it seems, the greater the urgency.

MAJIMAZ – der Name des Ensembles leitet sich vom hebräischen Wort «majim» (Wasser) und dem arabischen Wort «almaz» (Diamant) ab. Im Vorderen Orient ist Wasser Lebensspender, Wasser verbindet und bringt Trockenheit zum Erblühen – Wasser ist daher so kostbar wie ein Diamant.

Auf vielen Teilen der Erde lebten Juden, Araber und Christen friedlich miteinander. Daraus ergab sich ein einzigartiger, fließender Austausch der Kulturen, wodurch ein kostbares musikalisches Erbe entstand.

MAJIMAZ möchte heute mit neuen, eigenen Arrangements jüdische und arabische Musik und deren Verbindung zu neuem Leben erwecken. Mit sefardischen Gesängen, arabischer und jüdischer Instrumentalmusik, sowie altisraelischen und jiddischen Liedern entsteht ein neues Klangbild des Friedens. Ein Frieden, der umso dringender gebraucht wird, je entfernter er uns erscheinen mag.
